Dedicated Team or Project Outsourcing? Choosing the Engagement Model
Full-cycle outsourcing, a managed dedicated team or staff augmentation: each fits a different stage of a product. How to pick the model that matches your roadmap, budget and in-house capacity.

Three models, three situations
A quick map
- Full-cycle outsourcing (project-based): you have a defined scope and want one accountable partner for discovery, development, QA and support.
- Managed dedicated team: you have an ongoing product and want a self-managed squad with its own engineering manager at one predictable monthly rate.
- Team extension (staff augmentation): you have a team and need one to three senior specialists to close a gap quickly.
Questions that decide it
Who owns the backlog? If it is you, choose a dedicated team or extension. Is the scope fixed and the deadline external? Outsource the project. Do you need a specific skill for a few months? Extend the team. Most companies move between models as the product matures, and that is a sign the partnership works.
What to expect from a good partner
Senior people from day one, an NDA before the first call, a decomposition of the project into stages with top-tech and PM, a clear definition of goals, deadlines and budget, and a contract that reflects all of it. Some of our clients have been receiving support for more than five years; that only happens when the model fits.
