IoT in Retail: Smart Shelves, Smart Fridges and the Data Behind Them
Connected shelves, electronic price tags and monitored refrigeration give retailers a real-time view of the store. What the hardware does, what the software has to handle and where the value shows up.

The store as a data source
A supermarket generates events every second: a product leaves a shelf, a fridge drifts out of range, a price changes. IoT turns those events into data the retailer can act on the same day instead of discovering them in a quarterly audit.
Three systems we have built
What each one does
- Smart shelf monitoring: real-time stock inside shelves and back walls, out-of-stock alerts via email, Viber and SMS, sales analytics per brand, region and outlet.
- Electronic shelf labels: colour LCD price tags updated across the store in moments, enabling dynamic pricing.
- Smart fridge monitoring: remote temperature control and audit-ready compliance reports for every location.
The software is the hard part
Devices are commodities. The value sits in multi-tenant platforms that keep thousands of devices in sync, handle unreliable store networks, store history for analytics and expose simple dashboards to people who are not engineers. Multi-tenancy from day one lets one system serve every division of a retail group.
Retailers see fewer out-of-stocks, accurate prices and compliance data without manual checks. Brands get planogram insight. Both get a store that reports on itself.
